Bastille Tickets

You may know Bastille from its 80s-influenced hits like “Pompeii” and “Bad Blood.” This band brings a fun spin on alternative music that you won’t be able to get out of your head.

The beginning
Bastille started as a solo project for the lead singer Dan Smith, who later decided to add members Chris Wood, William Farquarson and Kyle Simmons. The group also picked up Charlie Barnes as a touring member. The band’s name is in reference to Bastille Day, a holiday on July 14 that commemorates the French Revolution. It is the lead singer Dan Smith’s birthday, as well.

The band started receiving attention after releasing tracks online until it locked down a deal with the hip-hop indie label Young and Lost Club. In 2012, the group released its Seven single, “Flaws/Icarus” in July 2011. Later that year, the EP Laura Palmer was released, in reference to the hit ’90s TV show, “Twin Peaks.” Most of the album was inspired by the show, too, with slow and eerie songs.

Rise to fame
In 2013, the band released its first full studio album, Bad Blood. This received positive reviews by fans and critics. The song “Pompeii” took off, reaching No. 2 in the U.K. and No. 5 in the U.S. The deluxe version of the album, All This Bad Blood, came soon after, with the introduction of a couple of new tracks, like “Haunt” and “Demo.” In addition to touring, Bastille also played popular music festivals such as T in the Park and Blissfields.

When it comes to new music, Bastille always delivers. The group released three mixtapes, Other People’s Heartache, Other People’s Heartache, Pt. 2 and VS. (Other People’s Heartache, Pt. III). In addition to original tunes, the band also does innovative covers. The most popular is the hip-hop song, “What Would You Do” by City High. Other artists Bastille has covered include Miley Cyrus, Frank Ocean and TLC.
